icandi CQ was appointed in 2020 to content manage, write, design and produce both a print and digital version of the company’s quarterly internal newsletter, XXplore.
The publication is aimed at all 6000 employees with the printed publication distributed to staff at their mines and production plants. An HTML (eMag) version and a mobile version (web-app) of the newsletter is also produced to ensure all channel preferences are met. The digital version suiting desk-based staff and the web-based app allows staff to access the latest edition of the newsletter from their phones.
The digital versions allow for the inclusion of embedded multi-media content.
As digital and print are consumed differently, content is repackaged for the digital versions. For the HTML newsletter, short format articles are displayed, videos are included instead of text only and image-based articles and infographics are animated.
The web-based app means that staff can access the latest edition of the newsletter from their phones. Here again, the content is repackaged to be mobile friendly.
Polls, surveys and comment boxes can also be embedded in the digital versions for two-way communication and engagement.
Measurement matters
Engagement is measured on the digital version in terms of the most popular and well-read articles, who is reading and from where and from what platforms and devices.
